About this exercise

The Sled 45° Calf Press is a machine-based calf exercise performed on the 45-degree leg press, using only the balls of the feet to press the sled and isolate the calf muscles. It allows heavy loading of the calves through a full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Sit in the 45-degree leg press machine and place only the balls of your feet on the lower edge of the footplate
  • Extend your legs fully but keep a slight bend in the knees throughout
  • Release the safety handles and let your heels drop as far as comfortable, stretching the calves
  • Press through the balls of your feet to extend your ankles fully, raising the sled
  • Pause briefly at the top, squeezing the calves
  • Slowly lower back to the stretched position under control
  • Complete all reps before re-engaging the safety handles
