About this exercise

A seated boxing-inspired cardio exercise in which you throw alternating uppercut punches while seated on a chair. It trains the shoulders, chest, and core while keeping impact minimal, making it suitable for active recovery or chair-based workouts.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on the edge of a sturdy chair with feet flat on the floor and hands raised in a guard position near your chin
  • Drive your right fist upward in an arc, rotating your forearm as in a boxing uppercut
  • Return your right hand to the guard position
  • Immediately throw an uppercut with your left fist in the same manner
  • Continue alternating arms at a brisk, controlled pace
  • Keep your core engaged and avoid leaning back or sideways with each punch
  • Breathe rhythmically, exhaling on each punch
