About this exercise

The Sitting Frog Crunch on a Padded Stool is an abdominal exercise performed seated on a padded bench with the knees bent outward and feet together in a frog position. From this elevated seated position you draw the knees up toward the chest while crunching the torso downward, creating a strong contraction in the abs. The frog leg position reduces hip flexor dominance and keeps the effort centred on the rectus abdominis.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the edge of a padded bench and bring the soles of your feet together, letting your knees fall out to the sides
  • Lean back slightly and place your hands lightly on the bench beside you for balance
  • Brace your core and keep your chest lifted
  • Simultaneously draw your knees up toward your chest and crunch your torso downward
  • Squeeze the abs hard at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower your feet back toward the floor and return to the starting lean
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
