About this exercise

Sitting on the floor with legs extended, repeatedly flex the ankle to lift the toes toward the shins, strengthening the tibialis anterior muscle along the front of the lower leg. This exercise is commonly used in shin splint rehabilitation and for improving dorsiflexion strength.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you and heels resting on the ground
  • Place your hands behind you for support and sit up tall
  • Keeping your heels down, slowly lift your toes and forefoot as high as possible toward your shins
  • Hold briefly at the top of the movement
  • Lower your feet back to the floor in a controlled manner and repeat
