About this exercise

A seated version of the classic cat-cow yoga sequence that mobilizes the spine by alternating between flexion and extension. Performed upright in a chair or cross-legged on the floor, it releases tension in the back and activates the deep core muscles.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright with hands resting on your knees, feet flat on the floor or cross-legged on a mat
  • Inhale and arch your lower back, lifting the chest and tailbone upward into the cow position
  • Hold the arch briefly, then exhale and round the spine, tucking the pelvis and chin toward the chest into the cat position
  • Hold the rounded position briefly before smoothly transitioning back to the arch
  • Continue flowing between cat and cow in rhythm with your breath
  • Perform 8–12 slow cycles, moving through a comfortable range without pain
