About this exercise

The single straight leg glute bridge hold is a unilateral bodyweight exercise that isolates the glutes and challenges hip stability. Keeping one leg extended straight while holding the top position increases the demand on the working glute and forces the core to resist rotation.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart
  • Extend one leg straight, keeping both thighs level and parallel
  • Press firmly through the heel of your planted foot and drive your hips up until your body forms a straight line from shoulder to knee
  • Keep your hips level — do not allow the unsupported side to drop
  • Brace your core and squeeze the working glute, holding the top position for the prescribed duration
  • Lower your hips slowly back to the floor
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
