HardGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

A unilateral squat progression toward the full pistol squat, using a wall as a light balance reference rather than a weight-bearing support. Developing single-leg strength, hip mobility, and ankle stability, it bridges the gap between a standard squat and the free-standing pistol squat.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a wall at arm's length and lightly place your fingertips on it for balance only
  • Shift your weight onto one leg and extend the other leg straight out in front of you off the floor
  • Lower yourself slowly on the standing leg, keeping your torso upright and knee tracking over the foot
  • Descend until the standing thigh reaches at least parallel to the floor
  • Drive through the heel to return to standing, complete all reps on one leg, then switch sides

About the Assisted Pistol Squat

The Assisted Pistol Squat is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
