About this exercise

The single leg low box squat is an advanced unilateral lower body exercise where you squat down on one leg until seated on a low box, then stand back up without momentum. The box provides a depth target and a brief pause, removing elastic energy and demanding pure leg strength, balance, and control.

How to Perform

  • Stand on one foot in front of a low box, with the other leg extended forward or held off the floor
  • Keep your arms extended forward for balance
  • Slowly lower yourself by hinging at the hip and bending the standing knee
  • Descend in a controlled manner until you lightly sit onto the box
  • Pause briefly at the bottom without rocking
  • Drive through the heel of the standing foot to stand back up
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
