About this exercise

The single leg glute bridge with external rotation combines a unilateral glute bridge with an outward rotation of the lifted leg, increasing activation in the glutes, outer hip, and stabilizing muscles of the pelvis. It is an effective exercise for improving hip stability and glute strength.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart
  • Extend one leg straight up toward the ceiling, then rotate it outward so the knee points to the side
  • Press through the heel of the grounded foot and drive your hips up until your body forms a straight line from shoulder to knee
  • At the top, squeeze the glute of the supporting leg and hold for a moment
  • Lower your hips back to the floor in a controlled manner
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
