About this exercise

The single leg box jump is an advanced plyometric exercise that trains explosive unilateral power in the lower body. Jumping from and landing on one leg challenges balance, coordination, and reactive strength of the quadriceps and glutes.

How to Perform

  • Stand on one leg in front of a sturdy box or step, with a slight bend in the knee
  • Drive your arms back, then explosively swing them forward as you extend through the hip, knee, and ankle to jump up onto the box
  • Land softly on the same foot in a controlled squat position, absorbing the impact through the hip and knee
  • Stand tall on the box, then step down carefully before performing the next rep
  • Complete all reps on one leg before switching to the other
