About this exercise

Side-to-Side Leg Swings are a dynamic hip mobility drill that loosens the hip abductors, adductors, and hip flexors. Swinging the leg laterally across the body increases the range of motion through the hip joint and is commonly used as a warm-up before lower-body training.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall next to a wall or stable support and lightly touch it with one hand for balance
  • Shift your weight to one leg, keeping a slight bend in the standing knee
  • Swing the free leg out to the side as far as range of motion allows
  • Let the leg swing back across the body in front of the standing leg
  • Allow the leg to pendulum freely and rhythmically from side to side
  • Complete the desired number of swings, then switch to the other leg
