About this exercise

A bodyweight plyometric movement that combines a lateral step with an upright row arm action, targeting the shoulders and upper traps while adding a cardiovascular component. The side step increases hip and leg engagement as you pull your elbows upward to shoulder height.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet together and arms at your sides
  • Step one foot out to the side as you simultaneously raise both elbows up to shoulder height, mimicking an upright row
  • Bring the trailing foot in to meet the lead foot as you lower your arms
  • Continue stepping in the same direction for the prescribed reps, then switch sides
  • Keep your chest up and core braced throughout
