About this exercise

Side step shuffles are a dynamic lateral agility drill that improves footwork, coordination, and cardiovascular endurance. The quick shuffling action challenges the hip abductors, quadriceps, and glutes while elevating the heart rate.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent in an athletic stance
  • Shuffle quickly to one side by stepping the lead foot out and bringing the trailing foot to meet it
  • Keep your weight low and your hips back throughout the movement
  • Avoid crossing your feet — maintain a consistent gap between them
  • After reaching the target distance or edge, immediately reverse direction and shuffle back
  • Stay on the balls of your feet for quick, explosive lateral movement
  • Continue for the target duration, maintaining a controlled rhythm
