About this exercise

The side step overhead swing is a full-body plyometric cardio drill combining a lateral step with a wide bilateral overhead arm swing. It challenges the hips, shoulders, and core simultaneously while improving dynamic balance and elevating the heart rate.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet together and arms relaxed at your sides
  • Step out to one side while simultaneously swinging both arms up and out in a wide arc overhead
  • Bring the trailing foot in to meet the lead foot as you lower your arms back down
  • Immediately step to the other side and repeat the overhead swing
  • Continue alternating sides at a brisk, rhythmic pace for the desired duration
