About this exercise

A dynamic combination movement that pairs a lateral step with a dumbbell lateral raise, training the medial deltoids while engaging the core for stabilization. The stepping pattern adds a coordination and timing challenge compared to a standing lateral raise.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides
  • Step one foot out to the side into a slightly wider stance
  • Simultaneously raise both arms out to the sides to shoulder height with a slight bend in the elbows
  • Pause briefly at the top with shoulders packed down
  • Lower the dumbbells back to your sides under control
