About this exercise

The side step diagonal punches is a dynamic cardio-conditioning exercise that combines lateral steps with alternating diagonal punches. It raises the heart rate, trains the core and obliques through rotation, and improves lower-body agility and upper-body coordination.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and fists raised in a guard position at chin height
  • Step laterally to one side with the lead foot, then bring the other foot to meet it
  • As you step, throw a diagonal punch across the body with the opposite arm (e.g. step right, punch diagonally with the left arm)
  • Step back toward center and then to the other side, throwing a diagonal punch with the opposite arm
  • Keep your core engaged and rotate through your torso with each punch
  • Maintain a steady, rhythmic pace for the full set
