About this exercise

A lateral-stepping squat that combines a wide side step with a full-depth squat, targeting the quads, glutes, and inner thighs. The side step adds a lateral movement challenge to the standard squat pattern and improves hip mobility.

How to Perform

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms relaxed at your sides or held in front of you for balance
  • Take a large step to the side with one foot, landing with your feet wider than hip-width
  • Sink into a deep squat by bending both knees and lowering your hips toward the floor
  • Keep your chest up, your back straight, and your knees tracking over your toes
  • Drive through both heels to return to standing
  • Step your feet back together to the starting position
  • Alternate sides with each rep
