About this exercise

The side step with arm crossover is a lateral cardio movement that pairs sideways steps with arms crossing in front of the chest. It targets the inner and outer thighs, improves lateral agility, and elevates heart rate as a warm-up or low-intensity cardio drill.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet together and arms extended out to your sides
  • Step your right foot out to the right, then bring your left foot beside it
  • As you step, cross both arms across your chest and then open them back out
  • Reverse the movement, stepping left foot out and right foot following
  • Continue stepping side to side in a rhythmic pattern
  • Keep your knees slightly bent and land softly on each step
  • Maintain upright posture and controlled arm movements throughout
