About this exercise

The Side Squat Walk is a dynamic lower-body exercise performed by stepping laterally while staying in a squat position throughout. It challenges the quadriceps, glutes, and hip abductors under constant tension and doubles as a hip-mobility drill.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart, toes pointing forward
  • Sink into a squat by pushing your hips back and bending the knees until your thighs are roughly parallel to the floor
  • Keeping the squat position, step one foot out to the side, then bring the other foot to follow — feet return to hip-width apart
  • Continue stepping in the same direction for the desired number of steps, then reverse direction
  • Keep your chest up, knees tracking over your toes, and do not let your hips rise between steps
  • Maintain the squat depth for the duration of the set
