Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Side Plank (wall-supported).

EasyCoreObliques

About this exercise

The wall-supported side plank is a modified isometric hold that places your feet against a wall for added stability. This variation is ideal for beginners or those building lateral core strength, as the wall contact reduces balance demands while still effectively targeting the obliques and core.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side on the floor with your back near a wall and feet stacked, pressing them against the wall
  • Prop yourself up on your forearm, keeping your elbow directly beneath your shoulder
  • Lift your hips off the floor so your body forms a straight diagonal line from head to feet
  • Press your feet firmly into the wall to stabilize your position
  • Keep your core braced and hips stacked throughout the hold
  • Hold the position for the prescribed duration, then switch sides
