About this exercise

A core strengthening exercise where the feet are elevated on a padded stool in a side plank position, and the hips are repeatedly lowered and raised to challenge the obliques and lateral core. Elevating the feet increases the difficulty compared to a floor side plank.

How to Perform

  • Place a padded stool beside you and lie on your side with your forearm on the floor and your feet stacked on the stool
  • Lift your hips off the floor to form a straight line from head to heels
  • Lower your hips toward the floor in a controlled manner without letting them touch
  • Drive your hips back up to the top position by contracting your obliques
  • Keep your body rigid and avoid rotating your torso throughout the movement
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other
