MediumCoreObliques

About this exercise

The Side Plank Leg Lift combines an isometric side plank hold with dynamic hip abduction, challenging the obliques, lateral core stabilizers, and the outer thigh simultaneously. Performing the move unilaterally exposes and corrects side-to-side imbalances.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side on a mat with legs stacked and prop yourself up on your forearm, elbow directly under your shoulder
  • Lift your hips off the floor so your body forms a straight line from head to feet — hold this side plank position
  • Engage your core and keep your hips stacked throughout the movement
  • Raise the top leg upward as high as you comfortably can, leading with the heel
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the leg back to the stacked position
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch to the other side
