About this exercise

A side-lying bodyweight exercise where the top leg is raised at a slight angle to the body, forming a T-shape, to isolate the outer hip and glutes. The controlled raise and lower pattern builds strength in the hip abductors without loading the joints.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side with your body in a straight line, legs stacked on top of each other
  • Rest your head on your lower arm and place your top hand on the floor in front of your chest for balance
  • Slightly rotate the top leg outward at the hip so the toes point toward the ceiling
  • Raise the top leg upward and slightly forward so it forms a T-shape with your torso
  • Pause at the top and squeeze the outer glute
  • Lower the leg back down in a controlled movement without letting it rest on the bottom leg
  • Complete all reps, then switch sides
