About this exercise

A passive chest and shoulder stretch performed lying on your side. You extend your top arm behind you and allow gravity to gently open the chest, making it an effective cool-down or mobility drill for tight pectorals.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side on a mat with your hips and knees bent at roughly 90 degrees
  • Extend your top arm straight in front of you at shoulder height, palm facing down
  • Slowly sweep that arm up and over behind you in an arc, following with your gaze
  • Allow your upper back to rotate open and your chest to stretch as your arm reaches behind you
  • Let the stretch settle with gravity rather than forcing it
  • Hold the end position, breathing deeply to deepen the stretch
  • Return your arm to the starting position, then repeat on the other side
