About this exercise

The side lunge with hip rotation combines a lateral lunge with an open hip rotation to improve lower-body strength, hip mobility, and dynamic flexibility. It targets the quads, glutes, and inner thighs while encouraging thoracic and hip rotation.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet together and hands clasped in front of your chest
  • Step your right foot out wide to the side, keeping the left leg straight
  • Bend the right knee and sit your hips back into a side lunge
  • Once in the lunge, rotate your torso and hips open toward the right
  • Hold briefly, then rotate back to centre
  • Push off the right foot to return to standing
  • Repeat on the left side
  • Keep your chest up and the lunging knee tracking over your toes
