Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Side Floor Tap Plank.

MediumAbsCore

About this exercise

A plank variation in which you reach one hand alternately to tap the floor to the side, challenging core stability and anti-rotation strength. The movement forces the obliques and deep stabilisers to resist lateral sway while you maintain a rigid body position.

How to Perform

  • Start in a high plank with hands directly under your shoulders, body forming a straight line from head to heels
  • Brace your core and squeeze your glutes to prevent hip rotation
  • Lift your right hand off the floor and tap the floor slightly to the right side of your body
  • Return your right hand to the starting position under your shoulder
  • Lift your left hand and tap the floor to the left side
  • Continue alternating sides with controlled, deliberate movements
  • Keep your hips level throughout — resist the urge to rotate or dip to either side
