About this exercise

Shoulder transverse flexion moves the arm forward and across the body in the transverse plane, from an abducted position. It engages the pectorals and anterior deltoid and is used to develop horizontal pushing mobility and front-shoulder awareness.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall and raise your arms out to the sides at shoulder height, parallel to the floor
  • Keep a slight bend in the elbows for comfort
  • Slowly sweep one or both arms forward and across the body in the horizontal plane
  • Continue until the arm(s) cross the midline as far as range allows
  • Return the arms to the starting position in a controlled manner and repeat
