About this exercise

The Shoulder Tap Push-Up combines a standard push-up with alternating shoulder taps at the top, challenging chest and triceps strength while demanding significant core stability to resist rotation. It is an effective bodyweight conditioning exercise.

How to Perform

  • Start in a high plank position with hands directly under your shoulders and body in a straight line
  • Lower your chest toward the floor in a controlled push-up motion
  • Press back up to the starting plank position
  • Lift one hand off the floor and tap the opposite shoulder, keeping your hips as square as possible
  • Return that hand to the floor and repeat the push-up
  • Tap the other shoulder on the next rep, alternating sides
