About this exercise

The Shoulder Stretch Behind the Back is a simple static stretch that targets the rear deltoid and the back of the shoulder capsule. By drawing one arm horizontally across the body and anchoring it with the opposite hand, you increase range of motion and relieve tension built up from pressing and overhead movements.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart
  • Extend one arm straight across your chest at shoulder height
  • Place your opposite hand on the extended arm just above the elbow
  • Gently pull the arm closer to your chest until you feel a stretch in the rear shoulder
