About this exercise

Shoulder medial rotation, also known as internal rotation, is a mobility drill that rotates the upper arm inward toward the body's midline. It engages the subscapularis and anterior deltoid, and is an important component of balanced shoulder mobility and rotator cuff function.

How to Perform

  • Stand or sit upright with the upper arm held at your side and elbow bent to 90 degrees
  • Keep the elbow pinned to your side throughout the movement
  • Slowly rotate the forearm inward, toward the midline of your body
  • Pause at the end of your comfortable range
  • Return to the starting position in a controlled manner and repeat
