About this exercise

The Semi Squat Jump is a plyometric exercise where you explode upward from a half-squat position, developing leg power, jump height, and lower-body explosiveness. It is a staple in athletic conditioning programs targeting the quadriceps, glutes, and calves.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, toes pointing slightly outward
  • Descend into a half squat by bending your knees to about 90 degrees, keeping your chest tall and weight through your heels
  • Explosively drive through your feet and jump as high as possible, fully extending your hips, knees, and ankles
  • Reach your arms overhead to aid momentum
  • Land softly on the balls of your feet with knees slightly bent to absorb impact
  • Immediately lower back into the half squat and repeat
