About this exercise

A bodyweight lat exercise performed lying on your back, where you use your legs or opposite hand to assist the pulling motion through a pullover arc. The inverted position shifts loading onto the lats and chest, while self-assistance allows you to build strength progressively without external equipment.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back on a firm surface with your arms extended overhead
  • Engage your core and keep your lower back in contact with the floor
  • Use your opposite hand or leg position to provide gentle assistance as needed
  • Pull your arms in an arc from overhead down toward your hips, focusing on the lat contraction
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement
  • Pause at the bottom when your arms are alongside your torso
  • Slowly return your arms overhead in a controlled arc to complete one rep
