About this exercise

The self-assisted inverse leg curl is a challenging bodyweight hamstring exercise performed from a kneeling position. You lower your torso toward the floor under control and use your hands to push yourself back up, progressively building the eccentric hamstring strength required for unassisted Nordic curls.

How to Perform

  • Kneel on a mat with your feet anchored under a stable surface or held by a partner
  • Keep your body upright and core braced at the starting position
  • Slowly lower your torso forward toward the floor, fighting the descent with your hamstrings
  • When you can no longer control the descent, place your hands on the floor in front of you
  • Use your hands to push back up to the starting position
  • Engage the hamstrings to assist on the way back up as much as possible
  • Reset to the upright kneeling position and repeat
