About this exercise

A seated mobility and strength drill that alternates between leg abduction and extension, targeting the outer thighs, quadriceps, and stabilizing core muscles. Performed from a chair or bench, it improves hip control and unilateral leg strength without external load.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a bench or chair with feet flat on the floor and hands resting on your sides for support
  • Lift one leg and extend it straight out in front of you, fully contracting the quadriceps
  • While keeping the leg elevated, sweep it out to the side into abduction, squeezing the outer thigh
  • Return the leg back to the front and then lower it to the starting position
  • Repeat the sequence on the opposite leg, alternating sides with each rep
  • Keep your torso tall and avoid leaning to compensate for the movement
