About this exercise

A seated shoulder mobility exercise that uses underhand (supinated) arm circles to warm up and mobilise all three heads of the deltoid. Performed on a chair, it is accessible to all fitness levels and works well as part of a warm-up or cool-down routine.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright in a chair with your feet flat on the floor and your back straight
  • Extend both arms out to your sides at shoulder height with palms facing upward (underhand/supinated grip)
  • Begin making slow, controlled circles with both arms simultaneously
  • Circle forward for the desired number of repetitions
  • Reverse the direction and circle backward for the same count
  • Keep your core engaged and avoid shrugging your shoulders during the movement
  • Gradually increase the size of the circles as your shoulder mobility allows
