Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Seated Straight-Leg Crunch.

EasyAbs

About this exercise

A seated bodyweight abdominal crunch performed on the floor with the legs extended straight in front. Sitting with the hands laced behind the head, you lean the torso back to lengthen the abs, then crunch forward by flexing the spine and contracting the rectus abdominis before returning under control. Keeping the legs straight and unanchored makes the core control the whole movement.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your legs extended straight out in front and your torso upright
  • Lace your fingers lightly behind your head with your elbows pointing out to the sides
  • Lean your torso back to lengthen the abdominals, keeping your legs straight and heels on the floor
  • Crunch your torso forward by rounding the spine and contracting your abs, bringing your chest toward your thighs
  • Squeeze your abs briefly at the top of the crunch
  • Slowly lean back to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
