About this exercise

A seated lateral flexion exercise performed on a padded stool while holding a towel overhead with both hands to stretch and mobilize the obliques and lateral torso. The towel encourages a longer lever arm and deeper side stretch.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a padded stool with feet flat on the floor
  • Hold both ends of a towel with both hands and raise it overhead, keeping your arms slightly wider than shoulder-width
  • Pull the towel taut and keep your arms extended throughout the movement
  • Slowly bend your torso to the right, reaching the towel toward that side
  • Feel the stretch along the left oblique and lateral torso
  • Return to the upright position, then bend to the left side
  • Move in a controlled manner and avoid rotating or leaning forward
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions
