About this exercise

A seated stretch that simultaneously targets the shoulder flexors, depressors, and retractors by placing the hands behind the body and allowing the shoulders to sink and open. It improves shoulder mobility and counteracts the effects of prolonged sitting or pressing movements.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on the floor with your legs extended or crossed
  • Place both hands flat on the floor behind you, fingers pointing away from your body
  • Slowly slide your hips forward while keeping your hands in place
  • Allow your shoulders to drop downward and your chest to open toward the ceiling
  • Gently squeeze your shoulder blades together to engage the retractors
  • Hold the stretch for the desired duration, breathing steadily
  • Return to the starting position
