About this exercise

A seated hip stretch performed on a chair in which you cross one ankle over the opposite knee to target the piriformis and deep gluteal muscles. Regular practice helps relieve sciatic discomfort and improve hip external rotation without requiring floor access.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on the edge of a chair with both feet flat on the floor
  • Cross your right ankle over your left knee, letting the right knee fall outward
  • Sit tall and gently press down on the crossed knee with your hand for a light assist
  • Hinge forward from the hips with a neutral spine until you feel a stretch deep in the right glute
  • Hold the position for the desired duration, breathing steadily
  • Return to the start and repeat on the opposite side
