About this exercise

A seated thoracic rotation and shoulder mobility drill performed on a chair. The movement combines an opening rotation of the upper body with a swinging motion of the arm under the torso, improving thoracic spine mobility, oblique flexibility, and shoulder range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on the edge of a chair with your feet flat on the floor
  • Begin with both arms extended in front of you at chest height
  • Open one arm wide to the side, rotating your upper body in the same direction and looking over that shoulder
  • Once fully rotated open, swing the same arm downward and under the opposite knee in a fluid arc
  • Return to the starting position with both arms extended in front
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps, then switch to the other side
  • Move fluidly and without forcing the range of motion
