About this exercise

A unilateral seated exercise performed on a chair where one knee is raised while simultaneously rotating outward (opening), engaging the glutes, hip abductors, and outer thighs. It improves hip mobility and glute activation in a comfortable seated position.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on the edge of a chair with feet flat on the floor
  • Place your hands on the sides of the chair or rest them on your thighs
  • Brace your core and slowly lift one knee upward while rotating it outward away from the body
  • Allow the hip to externally rotate so the knee opens to the side
  • Hold the top position briefly, squeezing the glute and outer hip
  • Lower the leg back to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other leg
