About this exercise

The Seated Lower Back Stretch is a gentle flexibility exercise performed while seated on the floor that targets the lumbar spine and surrounding musculature. It helps relieve tension, improve mobility, and is suitable as a warm-up or cool-down movement.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your legs extended straight in front of you
  • Slowly lean forward from the hips, reaching your hands toward your feet
  • Keep your back as straight as possible in the initial phase, hinging at the hips
  • Allow the lower back to round gently once you have reached your limit
  • Hold the stretched position for 20–30 seconds, breathing deeply and relaxing further with each exhale
  • Slowly return to the upright seated position
