About this exercise

A two-phase seated core exercise performed on a chair where you first raise the knee toward the chest and then extend the leg straight out. The combined movement challenges the abs and quadriceps through a full range of hip flexion and extension.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright near the edge of a sturdy chair with feet flat on the floor
  • Place your hands on the sides of the seat for light support
  • Brace your core and keep your back straight throughout
  • Lift your right knee toward your chest, contracting the abs
  • From the raised position, extend your right leg out straight, parallel to the floor
  • Hold the extended position briefly, squeezing the quad
  • Bend the knee back to the raised position
  • Lower the foot to the floor and repeat on the other side or complete all reps on one side first
