About this exercise

An isometric lat and upper-back exercise in which you grip a low pull-up bar from a seated position and hold your chin above the bar for time. Removing leg assistance and fixing the position develops static pulling strength and lat endurance.

How to Perform

  • Position yourself seated beneath a low pull-up bar
  • Grip the bar with an overhand grip slightly wider than shoulder-width
  • Pull yourself up so your chin is above the bar and your elbows are fully bent
  • Keep your core braced and your body as still as possible
  • Hold the isometric position for the prescribed duration
  • Maintain tension in your lats and avoid shrugging your shoulders toward your ears
  • Lower yourself in a controlled manner when the hold is complete
