About this exercise

A seated core exercise performed on the edge of a flat bench where you extend your legs out straight and then pull them back in, working the abdominals and hip flexors through a controlled range of motion. Gripping the bench for support allows you to focus entirely on the leg movement without worrying about balance.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the edge of a flat bench and grip the sides firmly with both hands behind your hips
  • Lean back slightly and lift your feet off the floor so your legs are extended straight in front of you
  • Bend your knees and draw them toward your chest, keeping your core braced
  • Extend your legs back out to the starting straight position in a controlled manner
  • Keep your lower back from arching excessively throughout the movement
  • Continue for the target number of repetitions without letting your feet touch the floor
