About this exercise

The seated neck flexion and extension is a mobility exercise that gently moves the cervical spine through its full forward and backward range of motion. Performed seated, it helps relieve tension, improve posture, and maintain healthy neck flexibility.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright in a chair or on a bench with your back straight and feet flat on the floor
  • Relax your shoulders and look straight ahead
  • Slowly lower your chin toward your chest, feeling a gentle stretch through the back of the neck
  • Hold the flexed position for one to two seconds
  • Slowly raise your head back to neutral and then tilt it gently backward, extending the neck
  • Hold the extended position briefly without forcing the range of motion
  • Return to the neutral starting position and repeat for the desired number of repetitions
