About this exercise

A modified chin-up variation where the legs are elevated on a bench or box, reducing the effective bodyweight and making the pulling pattern more accessible. It trains the lats and biceps through the same movement as a full chin-up while providing a supportive starting position for beginners or those building pulling strength.

How to Perform

  • Position a bench or box in front of a low pull-up bar at an appropriate height
  • Sit beneath the bar and extend your legs onto the elevated surface, heels resting on it
  • Grip the bar with a supinated (underhand) grip, hands slightly narrower than shoulder-width
  • Straighten your arms so your body is partially supported by your heels
  • Pull your chest toward the bar by driving your elbows down and back
  • Squeeze your back muscles at the top, with your chin over the bar
  • Lower yourself with control back to the starting position with arms fully extended
