About this exercise

A seated mobility drill that targets the thoracic spine by alternately rotating the upper back left and right while keeping the hips anchored to the chair. It improves spinal mobility, reduces stiffness from prolonged sitting, and can be performed anywhere a chair is available.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a chair with feet flat on the floor and arms crossed over your chest
  • Keep your hips square and firmly anchored to the seat throughout the movement
  • Inhale and, as you exhale, rotate your upper back (thoracic spine) to the right as far as comfortably possible
  • Hold briefly at the end range, feeling the stretch across your mid-back
  • Return to center and then rotate to the left with control
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions
