About this exercise

The seated alternate in-out leg raise over the bench is a core exercise performed sitting at the edge of a flat bench. By extending one leg out at a time in alternating fashion, it challenges the lower abs and hip flexors with continuous tension.

How to Perform

  • Sit at the edge of a flat bench and lean your torso back slightly, gripping the bench sides for support
  • Extend both legs forward off the bench, keeping them together and elevated
  • Separate your legs by moving them apart (out) and then cross or bring them back together (in) in a controlled alternating scissor or in-out pattern
  • Keep your lower back pressed against the bench and your core braced throughout
  • Continue alternating for the desired number of reps without letting your heels touch the ground
