About this exercise

A seated mobility exercise that promotes rotational flexibility through the lumbar and thoracic spine by alternately turning the torso left and right while seated on a chair. It relieves tension in the back muscles and improves overall spinal range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a chair with feet flat on the floor and hands resting on your knees or thighs
  • Keep your hips grounded on the seat and spine tall throughout the movement
  • Inhale and, as you exhale, rotate your entire torso to the right, turning from the lower back upward
  • Hold briefly at the end range, then return to center
  • Rotate to the left with equal control and range
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions
